Course Overview
A roadside inspection is when a government inspector stops a commercial vehicle and examines the driver’s paperwork and the vehicle itself. It happens millions of times a year across North America under the authority of 49 CFR 396.9, following the uniform North American Standard procedures maintained by CVSA. The results follow the driver and the carrier long after the stop.
This course walks through the entire event: who has authority to inspect, how vehicles get selected, the eight inspection levels, the documents that decide the first five minutes, what the inspector checks on the vehicle, the out-of-service line that cannot be crossed, professional conduct during the stop including the English language standard, the inspection report and the 15-day clock, Roadcheck and the enforcement calendar, and where the violation data goes next.
