This course is a complete, federally compliant online training program for U.S. employees whose jobs touch the highway transportation of hazardous materials — fuels, gases, acids, batteries, explosives, lithium-ion devices, hazardous waste, and the thousands of other materials regulated under the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).
The course delivers the four training categories required by 49 CFR §172.704(a)(1) through (a)(4) — General Awareness / Familiarization, Function-Specific, Safety, and Security Awareness — as a single integrated bundle. Each module is independently tested with its own graded knowledge check, and the bundle issues a §172.704(d) completion certificate covering all four required categories. Each quiz satisfies the testing-by-appropriate-means requirement of 49 CFR §172.702(d).
Who this is for. Every hazmat employee in a highway operation — drivers, shipping clerks, loaders, dock supervisors, dispatchers, billing and office staff, owner-operators, and the supervisors who sign off on all of the above. Per 49 CFR §171.8, anyone who directly affects hazmat transportation safety is a hazmat employee and requires this training.
Validity. Three years from the completion date per 49 CFR §172.704(c)(2).
Currency. Built to the eCFR text current as of May 2026, including the HM-265 final rule (91 FR 1433, effective February 13, 2026) and the 2024 inflation-adjusted civil penalty amounts at 49 CFR §107.329. What this bundle does not cover. Two add-on trainings are required for some roles and are sold separately: In-Depth Security Training (49 CFR §172.704(a)(5)) is required when your company has a §172.800 security plan, and Driver Training (49 CFR §177.816) is required for hazmat-employee drivers. Air, vessel, and rail mode-specific training is also separate.
